Roger Van Duzer

Roger is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and received his MS (naval architecture) and professional degree (naval engineer) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He was an officer in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict with sea duty as a gunnery officer on a destroyer and engineer on an aircraft carrier. His shore duty included docking and salvage officer and ship repair at a Navy shipyard; and, managing a new construction project for the Navy at a civilian shipyard. He was qualified as a Navy Engineering Duty Officer and as a Salvage/Diving Officer. He continued in the reserves after leaving active duty and is a Captain, USNR (retired).

Prior to joining Moran-Gulf Shipping Agencies in 2004, Roger was with Shell Oil Company. His last position was a Manager Marine Operations with responsibilities to ensure safe, efficient and responsible marine transportation for Shell in the United States. He held various positions with Shell within the marine department and other business management positions, in addition to spending two and a half years with Shell International Marine in London.

While with Shell, Roger was active in the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) and the American Waterways Operators (AWO). He was one of the authors of the 1994 "Reassessment of the Marine Salvage Posture of the United States" which was conducted on behalf of the National Research Council. In 2003 he received a U.S. Coast Guard Public Service Commendation for "his outstanding commitment to maritime safety and environmental protection…"

He has successfully completed "Maritime Security Training: Company & Ship Security Officers" required by ISPS Code Part A and B for Company Security officers (CSOs) and Ship Security Officers (SSOs). He is also an accredited ISO Internal Auditor.
