Ship Handling:
daylight docking and undocking only May 20, 2004 To: All Vessel Agents Fm: Boston Pilots Sub: Channel Shoaling, Drafts to Boston and Quincy Gentlemen, As you are well aware significant shoaling has occurred in the ports of Boston and Quincy. Boston’s main ship channel is limited to 37ft at MLW. Quincy is limited to 28ft on the approach to Citgo and Up the Town River. Tidal influences greatly affect what drafts can be brought in safely to CITGO and Quincy. The table below can be used for general guidance purposes only, but in no way does it supercede the prevailing conditions of the day. This does not take into account individual shipping company policies regarding keel clearance. Regardless of the height of tide 36-00 ft is max draft for any dock in Quincy. Maximum departure draft in Quincy is 26-00 in order to sail at normal low water. Height of Tide: Maximum allowable draft: 7.0ft 33ft 8.0ft 34ft 9.0ft 35ft 10.0ft 36ft Sincerely, Gregg H. Farmer Boston Pilots
