Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
 
A strong cold front will move south across the waters this afternoon
and evening followed near gale force NW winds. High pres from the Gt
Lakes will build E on Sat and move over the waters Sat night into
Sun. The high pres moves offshore Sun night followed by a cold front
on Mon.
 
Coastal waters east of Ipswich Bay and the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary:
 
..GALE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM EST THIS EVENING THROUGH
SATURDAY AFTERNOON...
 
.TODAY...W winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 2 to
4 ft. Wave Detail: SW 3 ft at 5 seconds and NE 1 foot at
5 seconds.
.TONIGHT...NW winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt. Seas 4 to
6 ft, building to 5 to 8 ft after midnight. Wave Detail: W 5 ft
at 6 seconds and SE 1 foot at 9 seconds, becoming N 8 ft at
6 seconds and SW 1 foot at 6 seconds.
.SAT...NW winds 25 to 30 kt, diminishing to 15 to 20 kt in the
afternoon. Seas 5 to 8 ft, subsiding to 4 to 6 ft in the
afternoon. Wave Detail: N 8 ft at 7 seconds and SE 1 foot at
9 seconds, becoming N 6 ft at 7 seconds.
.SAT NIGHT...N winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt, becoming
NW 5 to 10 kt after midnight. Seas 3 to 5 ft. Wave Detail: N 4 ft
at 7 seconds.
.SUN...SW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to
3 ft. Wave Detail: NE 3 ft at 7 seconds and SW 2 ft at 3 seconds.
.SUN NIGHT...SW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas
2 to 4 ft. Wave Detail: SW 3 ft at 4 seconds and NE 1 foot at
6 seconds. A chance of showers in the evening, then showers after
midnight.
.MON...SW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 2 to
4 ft. Showers likely.
.MON NIGHT...W winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas
2 to 3 ft.
.TUE...NW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 3 to
5 ft.
.TUE NIGHT...N winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas
4 to 6 ft.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
