Port Alert

New Orleans, LA / Mississippi River

September 18, 2025

Notices

Please see the below notice regarding the upcoming construction of a saltwater barrier at Mile 63.5 AHOP.  We will pass along more information as it becomes available.

The Corps of Engineers has advised that low river conditions will require the construction of the Salt-Water Barrier in the vicinity of Mile 64 Above Head of Passes.   Construction, operation of the barrier, and channel restrictions are anticipated to be similar to last year and will be confirmed once the contact is awarded.  (As reference, there were 2–12-hour river closures from Mile 63.5- Mile 64.0 during construction of the sill last year.  A reduction in the recommend maximum loading draft was not required as the Corps provided a notch in the sill to allow for the passage of deep draft traffic.)

A bid opening for the contract is scheduled for next Monday. September 22nd.  Once awarded, the Corps will be able to provide additional information on the exact timing of the construction.

Please contact our office if you have any questions.  Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
