Port Alert

New Orleans, LA / Mississippi River

September 23, 2025

Notices

Please see the below notice regarding the upcoming construction of a saltwater barrier at Mile 63.7 AHOP.  We will pass along more information as it becomes available.

The Corps of Engineers has advised that a contract for building the saltwater barrier has been awarded and construction will begin around September 30th.  Initial plans for the barrier, which will be located at Mile 63.7 AHP, are to build the barrier to 55 feet below the water line.  Once construction to 55 feet is complete, the Corps will monitor salinity levels to determine if additional height is required.  If additional height is required a notch in the barrier will be provided to allow for the passage of deep draft vessels.

A conference call has been scheduled with navigation interests for Thursday morning to discuss the operation and any navigational restrictions that may be required.  At this time, the restrictions are anticipated to be the same as last year, one way traffic through the area and closure of the Alliance Anchorage.  This will be confirmed during the call, and a summary of information will be provided upon its conclusion.

Please let our office know if you have questions.
