At time 1445 (local) 28NOV25, due to reported winds, and approaching storm fronts, Vessel Traffic Service Houston/Galveston has suspended all transits for piloted vessels bound for Bolivar Roads Anchorage and all bunkering operations in Bolivar Roads Anchorage.
Current reports in the Galveston Bay are up to 45knot winds, and 3-foot seas.
National Weather Service maintains a small craft advisory for Galveston Bay. Isolated streamer showers will begin to form as early as tonight, and thunderstorms are expected to begin to develop on Saturday afternoon. A few of these storms could become strong to severe with large hail, damaging winds, and a brief tornado being possible.
All vessels and facilities are encouraged to take preventive measures in advance of the front. Such measures may include the following:
- Safety measures should be taken to secure missile hazards, nonessential equipment, and loose gear.
- Ensure vessel moorings are adequate for the predicted winds. Mooring lines ready to be doubled up with due consideration given effects of the front.
- Vessel operators should consider the use of assist tugs for maneuvering and docking operations.
- Vessels in the Bolivar Roads Anchorage should ensure that anchor and anchoring equipment is in good working condition and standby to immediately respond to anchor dragging events.
