Port Alert

Port of Houston, TX

March 11, 2026

Notices

A cold front from the west bringing high winds and seas is anticipated to impact the Galveston Bay around 1300 - 1500.  This will be followed by an increase in winds gusting 30 - 35 knots by 2100.

Gale winds may result in additional VTS restrictions on access to the Bolivar Roads Anchorage, including no bunkers and suspending transits for piloted vessels.
Mariners are advised to consider these weather conditions before beginning or continuing their transits.

  • Safety measures should be taken to secure missile hazards, nonessential equipment, and loose gear.
  • Ensure vessel moorings are adequate for the predicted winds, doubled up as necessary .
  • Consider the use of assist tugs for maneuvering and docking operations.
  • Vessels in the Bolivar Roads Anchorage should standby to immediately respond to anchor dragging.
  • Continue to Monitor the National Weather Service and VTS Houston-Galveston frequencies for up-to-date forecasts.
Very respectfully,
