* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 13 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
 
* WHERE...Portions of northern Connecticut, central, eastern, northeastern and western Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island..
 
Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
 
A weak ridge of high pressure remains over New England Monday,
providing tranquil weather, with dry conditions and light winds. Low
pressure will develop over the mid-Atlantic Monday night and
strengthen rapidly, possibly into a storm center Tuesday afternoon,
tracking as a 980 mb low near the 40N/70W benchmark.  Blustery and
colder with NW gales likely Wed into Thu morning, along with
freezing spray.  Weak low pressure passes over the waters late Thu
or Thu night with a period of light snow. Behind the low, dry
weather follows Fri and Sat, along with gusty and cold NW winds.

National Marine Sanctuary:
 
..GALE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE
TUESDAY NIGHT...
 
.TODAY...NW winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming SW this afternoon. Seas
2 to 3 ft.
.TONIGHT...S winds around 5 kt, becoming NE 15 to 20 kt after
midnight. Seas 2 to 3 ft.
.TUE...NE winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 45 kt. Seas 4 to
6 ft, building to 9 to 12 ft in the afternoon. Snow with a chance
of rain in the morning, then snow in the afternoon. Vsby 1 NM or
less.
.TUE NIGHT...NW winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt,
diminishing to 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt after midnight.
Seas 9 to 13 ft, subsiding to 7 to 10 ft after midnight.
.WED...NW winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt. Seas 6 to
9 ft. A chance of light freezing spray in the morning.
.WED NIGHT...NW winds 30 to 35 kt with gusts up to 40 kt. Seas
5 to 8 ft. A chance of light freezing spray.
.THU...NW winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 35 kt. Seas 3 to
5 ft. A chance of light freezing spray.
.THU NIGHT...SW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas
3 to 5 ft. Snow likely with a chance of rain. Vsby 1 to 3 NM.
.FRI...NW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 4 to
6 ft. Snow likely. Vsby 1 to 3 NM.
.FRI NIGHT...NW winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas
2 to 4 ft.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
