Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
 
Low pres will develop over the Mid Atlc tonight and strengthen
rapidly, possibly into a storm center Tue afternoon near the 40N/70W
benchmark. Blustery and colder with NW gales likely Wed into Thu
morning, along with some freezing spray possible Tue night into
Wed.. Weak low pres passes over the waters late Thu or Thu night
with a period of light snow. Behind this low, dry weather follows
Fri and Sat, along with gusty and cold NW winds.
 
Coastal waters east of Ipswich Bay and the Stellwagen Bank
National Marine Sanctuary:
 
. ...GALE WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...
 
.TODAY...NE winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt, increasing
to 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 45 kt this afternoon. Seas 4 to
6 ft, building to 9 to 12 ft this afternoon. Snow. A chance of
rain this morning. Vsby 1 NM or less.
.TONIGHT...N winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 35 kt, becoming
NW 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt after midnight. Seas 9 to
13 ft, subsiding to 7 to 10 ft after midnight.
.WED...NW winds 20 to 25 kt, increasing to 25 to 30 kt in the
afternoon. Seas 6 to 8 ft.
.WED NIGHT...NW winds 30 to 35 kt, diminishing to 25 to 30 kt
after midnight. Seas 6 to 9 ft. A chance of light freezing spray
after midnight.
.THU...NW winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt, becoming W
10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt in the afternoon. Seas 5 to
7 ft, subsiding to 2 to 4 ft in the afternoon. A chance of light
freezing spray in the morning.
.THU NIGHT...SW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt,
increasing to 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt after midnight.
Seas 2 to 4 ft. Snow likely. A chance of rain after midnight.
Vsby 1 to 3 NM.
.FRI...NW winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 40 kt. Seas 5 to
7 ft. Snow likely. Vsby 1 to 3 NM.
.FRI NIGHT...W winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 35 kt. Seas
3 to 5 ft.
.SAT...W winds around 15 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 2 to
3 ft. A chance of snow and rain.
.SAT NIGHT...NW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas
3 to 5 ft. A chance of light freezing spray. A chance of snow.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
