Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
 
Continued off and on rain today as strong LLJ lifts over the region.
Southerly gale force wind gusts as high as 50 knot possible through
this evening. A very strong cold front will bring one last burst of
NW gale force wind gusts tonight before winds start to decrease
Thursday afternoon. A period of heavy rain will be accompanied with
the cold front tonight. Dry Friday with light southerly winds. A
weak low pressure moves through over the weekend bringing gusty
winds up to 25 knots and periods of rain..
 
Coastal waters east of Ipswich Bay and the Stellwagen Bank
National Marine Sanctuary:
 
..GALE WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...
 
.TODAY...S winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 45 kt. Seas 8 to
11 ft. Patchy fog. Showers, mainly this morning. Vsby 1 NM or
less.
.TONIGHT...S winds 25 to 30 kt, becoming W after midnight. Gusts
up to 45 kt. Seas 9 to 12 ft. Showers. Patchy fog in the evening.
Vsby 1 NM or less, increasing to 1 to 3 NM after midnight.
.THU...W winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt. Seas 7 to
10 ft.
.THU NIGHT...W winds 25 to 30 kt, diminishing to 20 to 25 kt
after midnight. Seas 5 to 8 ft, subsiding to 4 to 6 ft after
midnight.
.FRI AND FRI NIGHT...SW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt.
Seas 2 to 4 ft.
.SAT AND SAT NIGHT...S winds 15 to 20 kt, diminishing to 10 to
15 kt. Gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. A chance of rain.
.SUN...NE winds around 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft.
.SUN NIGHT...NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas
3 to 5 ft. A chance of rain.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
