Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
Weak high pres builds over New England today. A developing gale
center is expected to develop Thu into Fri, bringing E-NE gales to
the MA and RI waters, along with dangerous seas Thu afternoon and
night. Improving weather conditions Fri, and especially over this
weekend, as this storm weakens and drifts into the Maritimes. High
pres expected over the waters early next week..

...GALE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE
THURSDAY NIGHT...
 
.TODAY...NE winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 4 to
5 ft. Wave Detail: NE 4 ft at 7 seconds and SE 1 foot at
9 seconds.
.TONIGHT...E winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 4 to
5 ft. Wave Detail: E 5 ft at 7 seconds and SE 1 foot at
9 seconds.
.THU...E winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt, increasing to
25 to 30 kt with gusts up to 40 kt in the afternoon. Seas 5 to
7 ft, building to 6 to 9 ft in the afternoon. Wave Detail: E 7 ft
at 7 seconds and SE 1 foot at 9 seconds, becoming E 9 ft at
8 seconds. Patchy fog. A chance of showers in the morning, then
showers in the afternoon. Vsby 1 to 3 NM, decreasing to 1 NM or
less in the afternoon.
.THU NIGHT...E winds 25 to 30 kt, becoming NE 20 to 25 kt after
midnight. Gusts up to 40 kt. Seas 8 to 11 ft. Wave Detail: E
11 ft at 9 seconds and W 1 foot at 3 seconds. Patchy fog.
Showers. Vsby 1 NM or less, increasing to 1 to 3 NM after
midnight.
.FRI...W winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt, diminishing to
10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt in the afternoon. Seas 8 to
11 ft, subsiding to 6 to 9 ft in the afternoon. Wave Detail: E
11 ft at 10 seconds and S 2 ft at 8 seconds, becoming E 8 ft at
9 seconds and S 2 ft at 8 seconds. A chance of showers. Patchy
fog in the morning.
.FRI NIGHT...SW winds around 10 kt. Seas 5 to 7 ft, subsiding to
4 to 5 ft after midnight. Wave Detail: E 6 ft at 9 seconds and S
2 ft at 8 seconds, becoming E 4 ft at 9 seconds and NW 1 foot at
4 seconds. A chance of showers after midnight.
.SAT...W winds around 10 kt. Seas 3 to 4 ft. A chance of showers.
.SAT NIGHT THROUGH SUN NIGHT...W winds 5 to 10 kt with gusts up
to 20 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
