Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
 
Warm front lifts north through this morning with showers. Gusty
southwest winds develop ahead of a cold front which approaches the
waters tonight and has the potential for thunderstorms. Cold front
slowly moves off shore Wednesday night. A cold front moves through
late Thursday/early Friday followed by high pressure into the
weekend.
 
Coastal waters east of Ipswich Bay and the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary:
 
...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM EDT THIS MORNING
THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...
 
.TODAY...S winds 10 to 15 kt, increasing to 15 to 20 kt this
afternoon. Gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. Wave Detail: S 3 ft
at 4 seconds and SE 3 ft at 8 seconds. A chance of showers this
morning, then a slight chance of rain this afternoon. Patchy fog
this morning with vsby 1 NM or less.
.TONIGHT...SW winds 15 to 20 kt, diminishing to 10 to 15 kt after
midnight. Gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. Wave Detail: SW 3 ft
at 4 seconds and SE 3 ft at 7 seconds. Patchy fog. A chance of
rain and tstms in the evening, then a chance of showers after
midnight. Some tstms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall
in the evening. Vsby 1 NM or less, increasing to 1 to 3 NM after
midnight.
.WED...SW winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: SW 2 ft
at 4 seconds and SE 2 ft at 8 seconds. A chance of showers in the
morning with vsby 1 to 3 NM.
.WED NIGHT...SW winds 10 to 15 kt. Gusts up to 20 kt in the
evening. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: SW 2 ft at 3 seconds and SE
2 ft at 8 seconds.
.THU...W winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming S in the afternoon. Seas 2 to
3 ft. Wave Detail: SE 2 ft at 8 seconds and W 1 foot at
3 seconds.
.THU NIGHT...W winds around 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: W
2 ft at 3 seconds and SE 2 ft at 9 seconds.
.FRI THROUGH SAT NIGHT...S winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to
20 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft.
 
Winds and seas higher in and near tstms.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
