Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
 
Low pressure approaches with a surface cold front today as the
remnants of TS Chantal pass well to the southeast. Another area of
low pressure approaches later Wednesday and moves offshore by
Friday. High pressure arrives by the weekend.
 
Coastal waters east of Ipswich Bay and the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary:
 
.TODAY...S winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: SW 3 ft
at 5 seconds and SE 1 foot at 12 seconds. Patchy fog. A slight
chance of showers and tstms this morning, then a chance of
showers with isolated tstms this afternoon. Some tstms may
produce heavy rainfall this afternoon. Vsby 1 NM or less.
.TONIGHT...SE winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming NE after midnight. Seas
2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: S 2 ft at 6 seconds and SE 2 ft at
13 seconds. A chance of showers. A chance of tstms after
midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Vsby 1 NM or less,
increasing to 1 to 3 NM after midnight.
.WED...NE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: SE 2 ft
at 7 seconds and E 2 ft at 10 seconds. Patchy fog in the morning.
A chance of showers in the morning with vsby 1 to 3 NM.
.WED NIGHT...NE winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: E
2 ft at 7 seconds. A chance of showers after midnight.
.THU AND THU NIGHT...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave
Detail: E 2 ft at 7 seconds. A chance of showers.
.FRI THROUGH SAT NIGHT...S winds 5 to 10 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave
Detail: E 2 ft at 7 seconds.
 
Winds and seas higher in and near tstms.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
