Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
High pres over Quebec gradually shifts east into the Maritimes this
week. All mariners are urged to closely follow the National
Hurricane Center Forecasts for the impacts of Major Hurricane
Erin...especially those with interests in the Atlantic. Although the
Major Hurricane will be passing well to the east of our waters later
this week...high seas are expected to enter our open waters from
large southerly swell.
 
 
Coastal waters east of Ipswich Bay and the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary:
 
 
.TODAY...E winds 5 to 10 kt. Gusts up to 20 kt this afternoon.
Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: E 2 ft at 7 seconds and SE 2 ft at
15 seconds. A slight chance of rain this morning, then a chance
of rain this afternoon.
.TONIGHT...E winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to
4 ft. Wave Detail: E 3 ft at 5 seconds and SE 2 ft at 15 seconds.
A chance of rain in the evening, then a chance of showers after
midnight.
.THU...E winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 3 to
5 ft. Wave Detail: E 5 ft at 6 seconds and SE 2 ft at 15 seconds.
.THU NIGHT...NE winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 35 kt. Seas
5 to 7 ft. Wave Detail: E 7 ft at 8 seconds and SE 2 ft at
8 seconds.
.FRI...NE winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 40 kt. Seas 6 to
9 ft, building to 8 to 11 ft in the afternoon. Wave Detail: NE
9 ft at 8 seconds and SE 3 ft at 19 seconds, becoming NE 11 ft at
9 seconds and SE 6 ft at 19 seconds.
.FRI NIGHT...NE winds 15 to 20 kt, becoming NW after midnight.
Gusts up to 35 kt. Seas 8 to 11 ft. Wave Detail: NE 10 ft at
10 seconds and SE 10 ft at 15 seconds.
.SAT...NE winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 6 to
9 ft.
.SAT NIGHT...S winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas
5 to 7 ft.
.SUN...S winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 4 to
5 ft.
.SUN NIGHT...S winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas
3 to 5 ft. A chance of showers.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
