Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
Area of high pressure moves east of the coastal waters today with
increasing S to SE winds with occasional gusts less than 25 knots.
Seas today are increasing 3-4 feet. A few showers are possible
overnight into Friday morning and areas or marine fog. Wind shifts
to the SSW for Friday with gusts nearing advisory criteria. A cold
front moves across the waters Saturday night through Sunday, which
the front could become quasi-stationary over the eastern waters. An
area of high pressure returns late Sunday and remains through
Wednesday.
Coastal waters east of Ipswich Bay and the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary:
.TODAY...S winds 5 to 10 kt, increasing to 10 to 15 kt with gusts
up to 20 kt this afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: E 3 ft
at 8 seconds and S 2 ft at 3 seconds.
.TONIGHT...S winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 3 to
4 ft. Wave Detail: S 3 ft at 4 seconds and E 3 ft at 8 seconds.
Patchy fog. Vsby 1 NM or less.
.FRI...S winds 15 to 20 kt. Gusts up to 20 kt, increasing to
30 kt in the afternoon. Seas 3 to 5 ft. Wave Detail: S 3 ft at
4 seconds and E 3 ft at 8 seconds. Patchy fog in the morning with
vsby 1 NM or less.
.FRI NIGHT...S winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas
3 to 5 ft. Wave Detail: S 3 ft at 4 seconds and SE 3 ft at
7 seconds.
.SAT...S winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 3 to
4 ft. Wave Detail: SW 3 ft at 4 seconds and SE 3 ft at 8 seconds.
.SAT NIGHT...S winds 15 to 20 kt, becoming SW 10 to 15 kt after
midnight. Gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. Wave Detail: S 3 ft
at 4 seconds and SE 3 ft at 7 seconds. A chance of showers in the
evening, then showers likely after midnight.
.SUN...N winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to
3 ft. Showers likely.
.SUN NIGHT AND MON...NW winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. A
chance of showers.
.MON NIGHT...NW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas
2 to 3 ft.
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
