Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
A cold front slowly pushes east across the Great Lakes today and
tonight. Low pressure rapidly intensifies as it lifts northeast into
Quebec Thu as a cold front crosses the waters. Westerly gale force
wind gusts follow in the strong cold air advection pattern Thu night
into Fri along with areas of freezing spray. A ridge of high
pressure to our south shifts east of our waters later Fri into Sat.
We will then need to watch for a potential low pressure system near
or east of the waters later this weekend...but track, intensity, and
timing remain quite uncertain.

.TODAY...S winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 2 to
4 ft. Wave Detail: S 3 ft at 6 seconds.
.TONIGHT...S winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 2 to
3 ft. Wave Detail: SW 2 ft at 4 seconds and SE 2 ft at 7 seconds.
A chance of showers in the evening, then showers likely after
midnight. Patchy fog after midnight with vsby 1 to 3 NM.
.THU...S winds 15 to 20 kt, becoming SW 20 to 25 kt in the
afternoon. Gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft, building to 3 to
5 ft in the afternoon. Wave Detail: SW 3 ft at 4 seconds and SE
3 ft at 9 seconds, becoming SW 5 ft at 5 seconds and SE 4 ft at
10 seconds. Patchy fog in the morning with vsby 1 to 3 NM.
.THU NIGHT...W winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 35 kt. Seas
3 to 5 ft. Wave Detail: W 5 ft at 5 seconds and SE 4 ft at
9 seconds. Light freezing spray after midnight.
.FRI...W winds 25 to 30 kt, diminishing to 20 to 25 kt in the
afternoon. Seas 3 to 5 ft. Wave Detail: W 5 ft at 5 seconds and
SE 3 ft at 10 seconds. Light freezing spray.
.FRI NIGHT...SW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas
3 to 4 ft. Wave Detail: SW 4 ft at 5 seconds and SE 2 ft at
10 seconds.
.SAT AND SAT NIGHT...SW winds 15 to 20 kt, diminishing to 10 to
15 kt. Gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. A chance of rain.
.SUN...SW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 2 to
4 ft. A chance of rain and snow.
.SUN NIGHT...W winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas
3 to 5 ft. A chance of snow.
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
