NEWS ARTICLES –  04/24/25 - Coast Guard Sector Miami holds change of command ceremony at the Port of Miami - Seventh Coast Guard District - 305-781-6922
MIAMI — The crew of Coast Guard Sector Miami held a change of command ceremony, Thursday, at the Port of Miami.
Capt. Frank Florio relieved Capt. Chris Cederholm as commanding officer of Sector Miami during the ceremony, which was presided over by Rear Adm. Douglas Schofield, commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District.
"It has been the honor of a lifetime to be here and serve with you all – doing these critical missions," Cederholm said. "The American people depend on our missions and the value the Coast Guard provides to assure our national security and economic prosperity."  Cederholm's next position will be executive assistant to the vice-commandant at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.  “I am incredibly excited and deeply honored to fleet up as Sector Commander, building on the momentum and operational excellence already underway at Sector Miami," Florio said. "Having served alongside this exceptional team, I have seen firsthand the pride, integrity, and mission focus that define our work. I look forward to continuing that tradition every day.”  Florio previously served at Coast Guard Sector Miami as deputy commander.  The change of command ceremony marks the transfer of total responsibility and authority from one individual to another. It is a time-honored tradition conducted before the assembled crew, as well as honored guests and dignitaries, to formally demonstrate the continuity of authority within a command.  Sector Miami is responsible for protecting 250,000 square miles of ocean spanning across southeast Florida and Lake Okeechobee, with 264 miles of international coastline shared with The Bahamas. Sector Miami has approximately 750 active-duty, reserve, and civilian personnel, as well as 900 Auxiliarists dispersed across three Auxiliary divisions and 19 flotillas. The Sector Miami area of responsibility includes the busiest and third-busiest cruise ports in the world.
