First Female President in the 130-Year History of Chevron Shipping Company

It’s not every day you meet a woman steering 1.4 million miles of global shipping.

Barbara Pickering is the first female president in the 130-year history of Chevron Shipping Company, a role she assumed in May 2024 following the retirement of Mark Ross.

Her career with Chevron began in 1991 when she joined as a ship charterer in London. Over the years, she has held positions of increasing responsibility across the UK, Australia, and the United States.

Under her leadership, Chevron Shipping continues to operate a fleet of approximately 30 ships and charters third-party vessels to transport crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), refined petroleum products, and chemicals worldwide.

🚢 This fleet travels approximately 1.4 million miles annually, equivalent to 56 trips around the globe, supporting Chevron’s upstream and downstream operations.

⚓️ In 2021, they became a signatory of the Sea Cargo Charter, committing to transparent reporting and alignment with the International Maritime Organization’s decarbonization goals.

⛴️ To that end, they’re collaborating with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. to install technologies like the Wind Challenger to reduce emissions on what will be the world’s first LNG carrier equipped with Wind-Assisted Ship Propulsion Systems.
