Geir-Eilif Kalhagen, the #Maritime Division Director for Texas Department of Transportation - offered insights into the great things happening in Texas ports. Like all things ‘Texan’, it was BIG! 🤠

• Texas ports handle more cargo than any
other state, and support millions of jobs
and billions in economic activity.
• Texas ports generate $449.6 billion in
economic activity annually.
• The maritime industry contributes 28%
to the state's gross domestic product (GDP).
• Over 1.8 million jobs are impacted by
Texas ports, including direct, indirect,
and induced jobs.
• Texas ports handle over 746.4 million
tons of cargo annually.
• Six Texas ports rank in the top 20 U.S.
ports by total tonnage.
• The Port of Houston is the #1 port in the
U.S. by total tonnage.
• The Port of Galveston is the fourth busiest
cruise port in the U.S., and soon to be the
third in that ranking.
